Every year in October, CISV ATX SA attends the annual CISV USA conference where we participate in the “football pool”. All chapters in the USA are given the opportunity to bid on specific programs based on program type and location. Many hours are spent planning and preparing for the football pool by our Executive Board. In the months leading up to the conference, the Executive Board will send out a chapter interest survey to identify the ages of kids that are hoping to participate in a program the following summer. Upon reviewing the entire list of programs that will be offered to USA chapters, the board will also consider characteristics like strength and reputation of hosting chapter, travel costs, dates of programs, etc.
The football pool is a round-robin type bidding scenario. Each chapter is given priority in the bidding order based on the previous years hosting. Once a program is selected, it is the chapter’s responsibility to fill and send participants to that program. If a chapter is unable to send a delegation for a particular program that has been selected, it may be returned with a monetary penalty fee to see if another chapter can fill the spots.
Delegations for particular programs are selected by the CISV ATX SA selection committee. Each potential delegate is required to submit an application including providing references and attend a selection overnight. During the selection overnight, the applicants and their parents will participate in an interview with an Executive Board member and/or selection committee representative. Applications are taken for a specific program, not a location. The selection committee decides on which applicants will attend specific programs.
